Notes from 2014 August : "
Thanks heaps SL.. Mossman Gorge, mid. Aug 2014.
I saw it in anthesis (intact, fully in flower) a few days before; now this ovary has started swelling thus this flower apparently was fertilised and now spent, with still some petals and the calyx remaining attached.
Another low height, reachable flower bud will open in coming days so i will further observe it with the hand lens for confirming information, especially get a better look at the petals’ scales.
Update 19th of Aug 2014:
Confirmed, by the presence of 2 scales on each of the petals. Also each stamen has short hairs covering its lower 1/3 to 1/2.
Also as roughly partly seen in this photo, the purple branchlets, petioles and petiolules.
Unfortunately this apparently fertilised flower in this photograph dropped off, quite likely was only–apparently fertilised and not really so, thus when the biochemical signals subsequent to flowering and lack of fertilisation eventually travelled, exchanged completely and the ensuing cellular processes were achieved, the spent flower and its initially swollen ovary were abscised (dropped off) –?perhaps self pollination incompatibility or similiar?
